Dark Knight for Best Picture?

According to a report, Warner Bros. is planning to re-release The Dark Knight in theatres in January in a attempt to promote the film for Oscar voters notably for Best Picture, Best Director and Best Supporting Actor for Heath Ledger. The film which has already accumulated over 510 million dollars domestically and 950 million worldwide should be able to get over a billion with this re-release and with a DVD release predicted for December, it will be interesting if they get the push they're looking for. Of course, a genre picture will be difficult to enter the Best Picture race, but the last time a film made over 500 million dollars at the box office, it went home with 11 Oscars, so you never know.

I know you guys loved it but most people thought it was waaaay too long. I think it has the best chances in the art direction, cinematography, and editing categories -- and of course supporting actor. And keep in mind it's a sequel. I think Godfather II was the only sequel that ever won, and that was in a class by itself.

No, you forgot The Lord of the Rings, and that film has two against points:

*Sci Fi Theme
*Sequel

But yes, The Godfather and The Lord of the Rings won, but I also think the Dark Knight could get it. Not a LOCK but LIKELY
