Lust, Caution is OUT!

There have been solid rumors floating around that Ang Lee's new somewhat buzzed about film "Lust, Caution" is going to be rated NC-17, and that Focus Features will accept the rating. If that is so, it can kiss any Golden man near it goodbye. This is especially odd because the trailer made it look like a soft R. We'll see if this is true pretty soon.

For this projected, NC-17 does not count it out. Mainly because of Ang Lee

Well, Midnight Cowboy was rated X. Even though it has since been re-rated to R, I wouldn't totally count Lust, Caution due to the rating it received. The AMPAS also loves Ang Lee.

A lot of Oscar contenders were rated X, but that's because the MPAA would give the X rating to much less deserving projects. The NC-17 is viewed differently from the X, in that it is seen as on the border for porn. If this is an absolute knockout--like, getting best of the decade buzz--then I think it will succeed. But anything less would result in failure.

It may not win a golden man, but it just won the only golden lion
