A few thoughts...

-Frozen River got an Actress nom...AND A PICTURE NOM???? Yes!
-Nice to seee that some iffy contenders (Robert Downey, Jr., Rosemarie DeWitt, Kristin Scott Thomas) may have a more legitimate shot than we predicted
-Winselt got the nom for The Reader but not for Revolutionary Road. For the Oscars she's going supporting with Reader, so that explains that, but does this indicate anything?
-Slumdog Millionaire a drama? If it goes that way at the Globes, we're screwed.
-Penelope Cruz gets a Supporting Actress nod...for Elegy?
-As always with the Sattelites, some bizzarre nods. Beyonce? Michael Cera/Kat Dennings? DEBRA MESSING?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?
-No Benjamin Button in the Big 8. The tech nods indicate that they did see it. I don't know if this means anything, but it's surprising.

This looks like a great way to start off the season. Tomorrow is the first day of December, so before we know it, we'll be in high gear...

Um...it's Satellite, not Sattelite. What IS the International Press Academy anyway? These are about as dumb as the Golden Globes. Debra Messing? Did they even SEE 'Vicky Cristina Barcelona' with that terrific script and a performance for the ages by Penelope Cruz? At least there was nothing more for 'Happy-Go-Lucky' than Sally Hawkins, because she's the ONLY reason to see that film. Glad to see Nicole Kidman and that kid in 'Australia' ignored. Nicole's emotions ranged from A to B, as someone once said. I haven't seen 'Slumdog Millionaire' yet. I worry that all the chatter is going to get people's expectations up. Glad to see a couple of nods for 'In Bruges,' the most under-appreciated movie of the year, IMHO. Has anyone ever been to the awards ceremony for this thing? Where is it - Long Beach?
