...but I'm going to go out on a limb and say that Ratatouille will become the second animated film after Beauty and the Beast to get a Best Picture nomination. After The Incredibles, Finding Nemo and Shrek got buzz for a nomination but didn't quite make the cut, I think the Academy is overdue for recognizing a computer animated film in the Best Picture category. And what better film to break through the ice than with Ratatouille; the film buzzed as Pixar(the Academy's favorite studio)'s best? My predix desperately need to be updated, so I'll do that now. Across the Universe is too self-aware and trying to provoke more thought than it can. While in the trailer it appears visually stunning, that can't really make up for what seems like an overall pretentious film that will come across as little more than silly. (Really? Lucy and Jude are the main characters names?! That's laughable!)
I'm thinking this movie will be best viewed while getting high in your parents basement and trying to sync it up to your favorite psychedelic Beatles album.
When choosing a film that involves characters obsessed with The Beatles, I'll stick to Sean Penn playing a retard.
I disagree with many of your predictions. Absolutely Ratatouille won't make it into the Best Picture category. Too many better films. It's animated film... it belongs in the Best Animated Film category with The Simpsons Movie and whatever that bee movie was.
And natalie portman most certainly will get a nom whether it be for Best actress or supporing actress (other B girl, My BBerry night)
Ever since they created the best animated film category, none have been even in contention for best picture. It's like foreign films - no matter how much better they are than the best pic nominees, they have their own category.
Plus, if Toy Story didn't get the nomination before there was even a best animated category, I don't think the rat's chances are good...
I agree with Emily kinda. The writing probably won't be great, and the most likely of a major category is direction, which, if the trailer wasn't lying, should get some nominations elsewhere.
And yeah, there's zero chance that Ratatouille would even possibly make it, but it's an uncompromising lock for animated feature.
But... no Golden Age?
