What defines "breakthrough performance?" Just whatever they decide counts? I mean Ellen Page was amazing in Hard Candy and was in the blockbuster X-Men The Last Stand. While it was Nikki Blonsky's first movie.
Right, I was going to put a little disclaimer on Page, like I did for Cera, but I didn't. The Breakthrough Performance, or I've always thought, honors an actor or actress who, whether they have been acting for years or this is their first movie, comes into the spotlight with a great performance (or performances) that year and establishes themselves.
