A Look at Best Original Score

The nominees are...

3:10 to Yuma
Atonement
The Kite Runner
Michael Clayton
Ratatouille

I PREDICTED: 3/5. I had American Gangster and Eastern Promises in place of 3:10 to Yuma and Michael Clayton.
I'VE SEEN: 4/5; all but The Kite Runner. Good god, these are horrible choices.

3:10 TO YUMA-Much like the film itself, I considered the music here to be passive. How the hell did this get here?ATONEMENT-This is the only contender where the score plays a vital role in the film. If anything but this wins, it'll be a complete shocker.

THE KITE RUNNER-This is the most possible upset; I would imagine that a film such as this would have great music. However, its mixed reviews hurt it. The movie looked forgettable, and this award typically goes to a highly acclaimed film.

MICHAEL CLAYTON-I hardly even noticed the music of this film. What a bizarre choice. Still, it could end up winning in a huge upset simply because the Academy feels sorry for Michael Clayton and doesn't want it going home empty-handed.

RATATOUILLE-Like all of the film's technical aspects, the score of Ratatouille was very well-done. However, animated films rarely win this category. Besides, Atonement is pretty safe.

WILL WIN: Atonement
SHOULD WIN: Atonement

IN ORDER OF LIKELINESS:
1. Atonement
2. The Kite Runner
3. Ratatouille
4. Michael Clayton
5. 3:10 to Yuma

TOMORROW: Best Art Direction
